Have you ever watched a show so compelling that you woke up early just to press play? Criminal Justice Season 4 became that Thursday obsession for me. Released weekly on JioHotstar, this courtroom thriller unfolded over eight nail-biting episodes, each one ending in a way that made you impatient for the next.

From the very first scene, we are thrown into a murder that seems open-and-shut — but is it ever that simple?

Murder on Ira's Birthday: The Premise

The story begins with a familiar face — veteran lawyer Madhav Mishra, once again portrayed brilliantly by Pankaj Tripathi. This time, he's defending Dr. Rajeev (Raj) Nagpal, played by Zeeshan Ayyub, a successful surgeon and a single father to Ira, a young girl with Asperger’s syndrome.

After Ira’s birthday party, the family maid, Kamala, walks into a horror scene: Raj is found covered in blood, holding the lifeless body of nurse Roshni Saluja (Asha Negi), who also happens to be his girlfriend and Ira’s caretaker. The police waste no time; Raj is detained. But the murder weapon is mysteriously missing.

Enter API Gauri, leading the investigation with a sharp focus. But as Madhav Mishra, appointed by Anju Nagpal (Raj's wife, played by Surveen Chawla) starts to peel back the layers in court, it becomes clear that this is not just another crime of passion.

A still from Criminal Justice Season 4 showing the lifeless body of Roshni Saluja in the morgue, with a toe tag listing her name, date of death (12 Sep 2023), and age (30), capturing the intensity of the murder investigation.

The Golden Scalpel and the Twisted Timeline of Criminal Justice Season 4 - Review

The Golden Scalpel — a surgical instrument that appears in two crucial episodes — becomes a symbolic and literal turning point in the case. Who used it? Who moved it? Why was it missing in the first place?

While everyone suspects Raj, the narrative cleverly plants a seed of doubt. Is Ira, the child with Asperger’s, involved somehow? Is Anju, Raj’s estranged wife (played by Surveen Chawla), covering up something deeper?

At one point, I was convinced that Ira had accidentally committed the murder — a tragic misstep, and Anju was trying to take the fall. But the truth, as it turns out, was far more shocking. Sometimes, a mother must choose between morality and motherhood. And that choice can shake even the strongest soul.

A Family Torn Apart by Secrets

What makes Criminal Justice Season 4 more than just a crime series is its emotional core. At its heart, this is a story about parenting, protection, and painful decisions. Raj is not perfect, but his love for Ira is unmistakable. Anju is not in the picture, yet her presence is always looming. And Roshni — the victim — is not just a side character. Her story matters.

As the court proceedings unfold, we begin to see that every character is wearing a mask, hiding motives, traumas, and justifications. The writing keeps us guessing till the very end.

A Psychological Thriller That Gets Better Each Week

The storytelling this season is cleverly layered. Unlike many crime thrillers that peak too early or rely on one twist, Criminal Justice Season 4 builds suspense organically.

What stood out:

  • The courtroom scenes are not exaggerated, but emotionally loaded.

  • The use of mental health, especially through Ira’s condition, is sensitively portrayed.

  • The interpersonal dynamics between Raj, Anju, and Roshni are complex and realistic.

  • The slow reveal keeps you hooked without rushing to shock you.

The Final Episode: Justice Served or Sacrificed?

Pankaj Tripathi, as Madhav Mishra from Criminal Justice Season 4. Background shows a crime scene with a woman lying on newspapers, evoking a mysterious mood.

Without revealing too much, I’ll say this: the finale did not disappoint. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, the last episode took a completely different turn. A revelation that makes you question everything you’ve seen so far. A decision so human, yet so terrifying in its consequences.

You’ll walk away thinking: Was that justice? Or was it just love disguised as sacrifice?

Performances That Deserve Applause

  • Zeeshan Ayyub delivers a restrained yet powerful performance as a father caught in a moral spiral.

  • Surveen Chawla is magnetic — her expressions, especially in the courtroom, speak louder than words.

  • Pankaj Tripathi, as always, brings subtle humour and gravitas to Madhav Mishra, the only one who sees the full picture.

Even the supporting cast — from Ira, API Gauri to the housemaid Kamala — elevate the realism of this tale.

Should You Watch Criminal Justice Season 4?

Absolutely. If you enjoy-

  • Legal thrillers

  • Psychological drama

  • Unpredictable endings

  • And stories that explore the moral grey zone.

This season is made for you. Each Thursday became a ritual for me, waking up early in the morning and sitting in front of the television at 8:00 AM just to find out what happens next. And trust me, very few series create that level of addiction anymore.

Final Verdict: 5/5

Criminal Justice Season 4 is a masterclass in layered storytelling. It’s not just about who committed the murder, but why. And often, the “why” is what breaks your heart.

This isn’t a sponsored review — just the honest thoughts of a viewer who lived through every twist, every gasp, and every closing argument.

If you haven’t watched the final episode yet, prepare yourself. The ending will redefine everything you thought you knew about justice, love, and truth. Meanwhile, I'm sharing with you all the Criminal Justice Season 4 Official Trailer here:
